Search Engine Optimization & Web Design - Important and Helpful Pointers & Guidelines on Proper Content Formats for Effective Website Integration
Most professional web sites are large and complex. As such, it's important that you send your web site content to your web designer in a clear and understandable format. Please follow the following guidelines when submitting content:
General
- When e-mailing us content, clearly indicate in the subject line of each email what content is contained in that email. DO NOT send emails without subject lines.
- If you wish to provide a visual to how you want your layout to look, you may provide this in any format. However, please also provide all the content within the visual to us in compliance with the below guidelines, as it is very difficult to work with content directly from layout sheets.
Text
- Please send all text in a Microsoft Word document. It may be plain text or it may be formatted. Make sure the text is proofread and clearly organized and formatted – don't send a Word doc with raw text you just copied and pasted from various sources. This is sloppy and hard for us to lay out.
- Please send the text for each page in a separate Word doc, and clearly indicate which page the text is for.
- Do not embed pictures, text boxes, or spreadsheets within Word docs. Send these elements as clearly marked independent files.
Graphics
- Any picture format is acceptable, however we prefer .psd, .png, .gif, or .jpg format.
- Clearly label what each graphic is and where on the site it should go – send the picture files for each web page in a group with one e-mail per web page or group all of the pictures for a single page into a single compressed file before sending.
- Provide the highest resolution graphics possible.
Sound
- Any sound format will be accepted, however .mp3 is the preferred format.
- Send the highest quality sound file possible.
- Clearly label the sound file and where it goes.
Video
- Any video format will be accepted, however .mp4, .mov, or .flv are the preferred formats. Of these, Flash Video, or .flv is the most preferable.
- Send the highest resolution video file practical.
- Clearly label the video file and where it goes.
Source Code provided by other Web Sites
- Send code embedded within a Word doc, DO NOT send raw code through email.
- Clearly label what the code is for and where it goes.
- If the code corresponds with a section of text in a particular web page, it is preferred that the code be sent next to the text in the Word Doc containing the text.
Other Content
- Please contact us regarding the submission of any other types of content.
